Water-soluble metallic powder colours, used individually or mixed with gouaches or watercolours to obtain an infinite variety of hues, are also recommended for small-scale restoration work and for up frames and gilding. Metallic powder is kept dry and diluted only at the time of use to prevent oxidation and preserve its full brightness and splendour. Simply dip a damp brush into the powder jar to obtain a colour which is easily applied to the surface to produce a perfectly smooth, covering coat.
